We offer a range of free learning support options in areas such as reading, writing, communication, English language, maths, and general wellbeing. Access to the right support always starts with having a conversation to identify needs. BCITO are here to help you in this process.

Nationwide Learning Support
As an active BCITO learner, you have access to a range of free learning support services nationwide. These services can help you build skills in areas such as reading, writing, numeracy, English language, money management, study techniques, critical skills, and more. Whether you need tuition or online courses, we're here to support your learning journey.
Pathways Awarua
Pathways Awarua is a free online learning resource with learning modules anyone can complete in their own time, at their own pace.
C-pen: assistive device
An assistive reading tool that reads text aloud.
Edvance
Three different online courses to boost apprentices’ success for learning in building and construction.
English Language Partners
An online, intermediate level, 9-week course where apprentices can build their English speaking, listening, writing and reading skills specific to building and construction.
Learner Focused Training
Online classes held once a week for 10 weeks, tailored for carpentry apprentices seeking support with their apprenticeship. Cohorts can be created for general learning support within carpentry, and for different ethnicities.
Literacy Aotearoa
1:1 face-to-face or online tuition tailored to apprentices individual needs, whether it is support with reading, writing, maths, communication or study skills.
Vitae Counselling
Free confidential counselling sessions on the phone, face-to-face or online video (such as FaceTime or Zoom). This can be for anything personal, study or work related.
Education Unlimited
- 1-1 group or individual language, literacy and numeracy tuition tailored to learners needs.
- Critical skills workshops - site safe, study skills, goal setting, money management and mental health.
Region Specific Learning Support
Hagley Learning Centre
We refer all our Christchurch literacy and numeracy support needs here, because they’re experts at what they do. Learners have the option of a kick-start group course, or 1:1 sessions tailored to their needs.
Literacy Waitakere - West Auckland
West Auckland based learner-centred tuition, apprentices receive 1:1, face-to-face support that’s tailored to their needs and assessments. Online tuition available if needed.
REAP Aotearoa Drop-in Sessions
Drop-in support sessions between 5-7pm in Kaitaia, Masterton, Blenheim and Westport. Hosted by a local TA and a REAP representative. Learners can drop in for a quiet place to study, or to ask any questions relating to their apprenticeship. Free food provided.
Waiheke Adult Learning
Wednesday drop-in group study support sessions on Waiheke Island, where learners can work on theory and course work, and ask for learning support. Sessions cover specific topics as well as general support. Free food provided.
Scholarships
We offer financial assistance if you're an apprentice or want to train an apprentice.
